Music

'Music happens to be an art form that transcends language.'

Herbie Hancock

'I don't make music for eyes. I make music for ears.'

Adele

Children at Carswell have the opportunity to engage with music of all styles and from all cultures. Through the use of Charanga’s Model Music Curriculum and our teachers with specialist knowledge and musical talents, children are immersed in music-making activities that deepen over the course of the six school years. Musical skills are reinforced each year, and children are offered challenges to apply their knowledge and understanding.

Children experience the following musical skills: listening, singing, playing, composing, improvising and performing. Children are guided to apply these skills in meaningful ways, such as linking a composition to the class project.

Charanga’s Approach to Education

“Our philosophy of music education is based on the principle that it should be fun and engaging for all concerned, and that every child is a born musician. Music plays a role in every aspect of our lives, wherever and whoever we are."
